We are pleased to announce that, as part of Sistema in Norwich, we are developing a 'teen' Sistema, where young people 11 to 16 who have been part of Sistema in Norwich can continue to learn to play a musical instrument and be part of an orchestra after they leave primary school.
This has been possible thanks to funding from the Geoffrey Watling Charity, the Youth Social Action Fund (local), the Comic Relief Local Communities Fund and the Lovewell Blake Fund.
The advanced group has already started to meet and we will be announcing more sessions shortly, with provision increasing as we are able to attract more funding.
The nucleo is focussed on young people from less well off areas of the city, such as the Larkman, Lakenham, Catton Grove, Bowthorpe, Heartsease and Mile Cross areas, between the ages of 12 and 16yrs. It is based on learning to play an instrument through being part of an orchestra or musical group, though we will seek to accommodate a wide range of instruments. We are, however, happy to discuss the participation of any young person, so please get in touch
The new Nucleo will also include the Sistema Digital Instruments Programme, which explores the integration of digital instruments into the orchestra. This is delivered in partnership with Laboratory Media Education.
