Project giving young people in Norwich the opportunity to work with one of the best groups of musicians in Brazil, Monobloco. 8 members of the group worked with over 150 young people over three days at the Hewett School, developing musicianship on samba instruments and learning a number of pieces for performance.
A mass performance of over 100 young people with Monobloco took place on Millennium Plain outside the Forum at the end of the three days.
The project also developed a new samba band at the Hewett School, which was subsequently supported as part of Sure Futures and then by the school. Members of the band have also taken part in other projects, such as Back to the Streets, Carnival Crossroads and the Olympic Torch Relay.
Funding for the ‘Samba Extravaganza’ was provided by the Clore Duffield Foundation through its Clore Performing Arts Awards, along with a donation from the John Jarrold Trust and support from Sure Futures.
