Introduction
The Norfolk Carnival Network brings together carnival practitioners, organisers and enthusiasts from across the county to share information and ideas, and work together to develop carnival in the region.
The Carnival Network was started in September 2002 following a two-day carnival seminar, Jump II, funded by Awards for All. It was recognised that carnival in Norfolk needed a range of support and opportunity for development. The network was created to bring together people engaged or interested in carnival from across the county to share information and ideas, and work together to develop carnival in the region.
The maintenance of the network has been made possible as a result of funding received from Norfolk County Council, which has enabled us to hold meetings, run training and develop resources. There is a rich tradition of carnival in Norfolk, with over 20 carnivals in the county, but many carnivals struggle with a range of issues that threaten their continuence, from insurance to volunteers.
Our experienced has shown us that the size of the county and diversity of interest makes attendence at meetings and events difficult. As a result, this webpage and the attached forum has become the focus for the Network. It provides a central point for information on carnivals and carnival events in Norfolk and through the website we will offer a range of resources for organisers, groups, practitioners and volunteers. Through the forum we can offer help and advice, and even if we do not know the answer we may well know someone who does.
If you are involved in carnival and want to be added to our mailing list and/or have details on the website, please contact us for further information.
If you have suggestions for what you would like to see on this webpage please get in touch.
The County Council has a small projects fund (up to £1,000) that carnival groups might like to try as a source of funding. Check out the Arts Project Fund.
Some information about health and safety as it concerns carnivals is available to download at Carnival Health and Safety Information.
