Marcus Patteson

Marcus Patteson

A community musician by background, Marcus is the founder of Norwich & Norfolk Community Arts, running all aspects of the organisation until the company's reorganisation in January 2009. A singer and percussionist, Marcus is a specialist in Brazilian music, and co-founder of Norwich Samba, which he directed for nine and a half years.

He has made two research trips to Brazil, to study music and carnival, most recently studying with Rio bloco, Monobloco. As NORCA's Director he develops and fundraises for projects, often taking on a project management role for those that are successful, as well as overseeing the running and strategic development of the company.

Outside of NORCA he is one of the Directors of Bloco do Sol Nascente, and runs his own small group, Rabo de Foguette, as well as having credits as a musical director. Marcus' community music training was as an Instrumental Facilitator with Access to Music, and he has run vocal and percusion workshops for over 10 years in all sorts of community settings.

Having come to a career in music through the community music route, starting with singing with the choir Big Sky, he is a profound believer in the power of artistic involvement to change lives for the better.
