NORCA is committed to developing and providing local, community-based resources. This has been a key part of what we have offered since our inception in 2001, originally with the Pavilion in Waterloo Park.
The NORCA Music & Media Centre is based at the Phoenix Centre on Mile Cross Road. Established with funding from Sure Futures, the centre acts as a focus for our work with young people under the Sure Futures programme, particularly those between the ages of 11 and 16 years. The Sure Futures Project Assistant, Cathie Davies, is also based in the building. Her role is to increase the profile of the project and get more young people involved in what we do.
The Music & Media Centre is home to our existing facilities, which we are currently seeking to expand and bring up to date. It is fundamental to our ethos that people from all backgrounds, and particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity, are given access to cutting edge technology. Our programmes and training use industry standard software, so that there is always the opportunity to take involvement into a professional context. Work with young people often uses cut-down versions of packages, which means that they get used to the look or feel of industry standard software.
NORCA has concentrated on music provision and you can hear some of the music produced under the Sure Futures Programme on this page.
