Monobloco are one of the most exciting groups to come out of Rio in the last few years. They have developed a reputation for the sheer vibrancy and quality of their show, which mixes traditional and contemporary material into a high energy performance.
In 2008 Monobloco toured the UK with a 12 piece band, playing to over 10,000 people in 14 dates, that included three sell-out nights at the Guanabara in London, big audiences (600+) at the Leeds Met, Norwich and Hitchin, three dates in Ireland, and culminated in a Womad, Siam Stage performance that was recorded by BBC3 for broadcast.
The tour included workshops with a number of community groups and bands, including several who performed alongside the group as part of a show (e.g. Norwich Samba at the Lord Mayor’s Weekend Chapelfield Stage).
They also be took part in a major education project in Norwich involving 150 schoolchildren. You can read all about the Samba Extravaganza in the Project Archive.
