Our Creative Communities initiative seeks to develop a wider programme of community arts work and embed existing programmes within this.
The aim is firstly to develop a broader arts participation offer, to increase the number of people and communities we work with each year, and increase the opportunities to get involved.
However, through this we also aim to increase the support for specific programmes, such as Sistema in Norwich, and extend their impact, for example by engaging parents and families of participating children.
We have had funding from Awards for All (Big Lottery) to pilot this over the last year, which has been based around Sistema in Norwich and has included two areas of activity:
As well as demonstrating the value of arts and creative engagement for increasing confidence, self-esteem, connectivity and support, this project has helped with the development of greater community representation on the Sistema management group, both for young people and their parents, and the development of support groups connected to each of Sistema's primary school nucleos.
