Carnival Company Project
Music: An opportunity not to be missed! In September, Chris Quade Couto (Köln Samba) and Thalita Santos (Bloco Saias na Folia, Rio) will be leading a weekend workshop of Samba drumming, a rare UK appearance for two of the best workshop leaders around.
Dance: The amazing Mariana Pinho will be coming to Norwich on four occasions. On each day we will be offering two workshops, Afoxé and Samba Reggae in one, and Coco and Maracatu in the other. Workshop participants will also be able to join us for the Halloween parade, which Mariana will lead. In early September there will be a chance to learn the Maculelê Stick fighting dance with Capoeira Communities.
Costume: What a feast! We are offering costume workshops with Saffron Paffron and Mariana Pinho, which can all work towards costume for the Halloween parade. And to top it off, the marvellous Charles Beauchamp of Mandinga Arts will be doing a weekend workshop in November.
Stilts: Soren Nielsen from acclaimed stilts and aerial company, Scarabeus, will be returning to Norwich to support our development of stilts walking, with four workshops. Each day will have a beginners and an advanced section, so whether you want to have a go, or expand your skills there will be something for you.
Digital: We are becoming a society of digital natives. We are running a ‘blue-sky thinking’ day to explore what advances in digital technology bring to the carnival sector, which will be free to participants.
Events: Get involved in Norwich City Council’s Spooky City Parade on Halloween. Come along to some of our workshops and be part of the Carnival Carnival block.
And a chance to get involved more long term.
