NORCA worked with Reedham Youth Club for over a year to offer a wide range of music and performing arts activities on the alternate week to the Youth Club, enabling young people from this rural community to access arts provision. Activities included Music Technology, DJ skills, Samba, Circus Skills, Capoeira, Contemporary Dance, DJ & Drumming, Band development, Drama and Singing. 41 young people were involved, with a total of 380 attendances for the year.
In the extensive project report, Terrie Colk, the organiser of Reedham Youth Club, shows just what a difference arts activities can make, especially to young people in a rural community. The report includes numerous letters from the young people involved and their parents, praising the project. The young people clearly got loads out of being involved and their parents talk about increased confidence and sociability, new skills, and expanded horizons. Of particular note is a letter from PC Ian Kennedy, from Norfolk Constabulary, who notes a "perceptible drop in youth-related problems" since the club had started.
