Globalbeat was a cultural diversity project that aimed to bring together musicians from different cultural backgrounds to work together. The project worked with 5 core artists, Marcus Patteson, Jose Ferrera Mulen, Debabrata Das, Jon Halls and Anna Mudeka, bringing Brazilian, Cuban, Indian and African material to the mix. The result was an exciting fusion of these cultural influences. In addition, the project brought on board two dancers, Piya Das and Glynnis Masuku, and a brass section. NORCA initiated the project with seed funding from the Arts Council, and the group went on to get Arts Council funding in their own right to develop the show, including the opportunity to work with Jazz Trombonist, Dennis Rollins, on developing material. The project culminated in two performances at Norwich Playhouse in December 2006 and a Pulse Festival Performance (Ipswich) in June 07. Although the group is no longer an ongoing concern, the project has led to a number of new groups, as well as the musicians continuing to work together on a more informal and one-off basis.
